Yle Broadcasting
It’s hard to believe, but also Yle once was a small studio that had their first radio transmission that was broadcast from a studio in downtown Helsinki, under the name Suomen Yleisradio. It wasn’t until 1928 when Yle’s broadcasts became available throughout the country. In the early ‘30s, around 100.000 households could listen to Yle programmes. In 1957, television broadcast tests started for Suomen Televisio, later renamed to Yle TV1. Fast-forward to today: Yle now provides three national television channels, 13 radio channels and services, and 25 regional radio stations.
Design
The Finland 2 Euro “100 years Yle Broadcasting” was designed by Petri Neuvonen, who also designed the 20 Euro for Erik Allardt. His design represents a deeper meaning: modern people often live in separate information bubbles that distort reality and limit their view of the world around them. Public broadcasting breaks these information bubbles and brings people and communities closer to shared knowledge and content.
