Every year, Helsinki Mint launches commemorative coins, as commissioned by the Finnish Ministry of Finance. We are happy to launch a 2 Euro commemorative coin for Finland–Sweden Athletics International 100 years, now available in a coin roll.
The coin roll holds 25 pieces of the 2 euro commemorative coin in UNC Quality, which means the coins are minted as if they will come in circulation, when they actually won’t be in circulation.
Finland–Sweden Athletics International 100 years
On the 23th and 24th of August 2025, it’s time for the Finland–Sverige-landskampen (Finland–Sweden Athletics International), the annual athletics competition between Finland and Sweden. Did you know that this is the only athletics match on professional level with two participating countries? This year, we celebrate 100 years of the so-called Finnkampen (The Finn Battle), which will take place in Stockholm, Sweden.
The Finland–Sweden Athletics International isn’t about individual glory for competing athletes. It focusses on two nations coming together and promoting sports for all ages. The Athletics International is divided in two competitions: one for men and one for women. Among the events that take place in both competitions are the 100m, 200m, 400m, 5000m, 4x100m relay, 400m hurdles, high jump, long jump, pole vault and many more. The tens of thousands of visitors every year are treated to a two-day spectacle that is a celebration of shared history and mutual respect between neighboring nations. To emphasize this celebration, Helsinki Mint presents a special, limited commemorative coin.
Design Finland 2 Euro Coin Roll
This coin roll holds 25 pieces of the 2 Euro commemorative coin in UNC-quality. The 2 Euro coin was designed by Pertti Mäkinen and shows the element of competition, with two legs seen in movement. In the background, lines are moving in two directions. These lines can be interpreted as the two competing countries, Finland and Sweden. The reverse shows the national side of the 2 Euro Coin.
